Marea Reed is a photo media artist exploring the threshold between immediate environment and our intuitive response to it. These quicksilver spaces between physical and metaphysical worlds inform her imagery. Their settings – suggestive of the Arcadian or the boundless – are metaphors for a longing to be far away, and for the Sublime’s concepts of interconnectedness, imminence and an evolving, abstracted infinite.
Marea has exhibited across Australia, including as a finalist in notable competitions such as the
Australian Photography Awards, Moreton Bay Regional Art Prize, Fleurieu Biennale Art Prize, and the
Percival Portrait Awards. Internationally, along with being a semi-finalist in the BBA Photography Prize (2021) and the Royal Photographic Society’s
International Photographic Exhibition (2019), Marea has exhibited at the
Berlin Photo Bienale, in Barcelona as a multiple finalist (and
Fine Art category winner 2018) in the
Julia Margaret Cameron Award and
The Pollux Awards, as well as juried exhibitions in the USA. In 2022, she received an Honourable Mention in the
Px3 Prix de la Photographie Paris.
