Lily Acheson is an Irish-Australian multidisciplinary artist, currently developing her historical and technological knowledge of ceramics, accompanied by interests in tattooing, calligraphy, botany, and theology. Lily explores the familial and political histories of her ancestral home of Northern Ireland as well as her current home in Australia, interested primarily in the varying effects of British Imperialism. Lily’s ceramic work traces the material exploration of porcelain and engages with unspoken cultural rituals surrounding it. By testing the physical boundaries of porcelain, she attempts to interrogate the high status of the material, specifically as it relates to ideas of colonialism, nationalism and sacrality it the West.
