The work of Alexandra James explores the complex relationship between art and craft, placing importance on craft practices and kitsch aesthetics. In her use of beads and broken glass, collections of small objects she has made over many years, her works carry references to her past sense of self. Through the dense accumulation of these elements, James evokes a feeling of nostalgia, warping linear timelines and allowing the past to shine bright in the present, as an act of personal storytelling. James views the creation of her bejewelled and biological objects as a vessel for personal histories and memory.
